Learning different things your computer can do to help you with your job.

This course on Google Spreadsheets is aimed at teachers. It will have two focuses. The first is the tool itself: how to manipulate numbers and text. The second focus is on how to use it in teaching.

This course will meet August 11, 12 and 13 from 8:30 - 10:30 at Central Office.

We will spend about half of each of the three sessions on each focus area. I will lecture no more than half of the time and then you will be given challenge questions appropriate to use with students in about grade 3 through grade 12. You will break into small groups to solve these challenges. Grade K - 2 teachers: don't think this isn't for you! Please sign up and extend the reach of spreadsheets to your grades. Indeed, I know of a grade 2 teacher in our district already asking her students to use spreadsheets!

Please see the session descriptions for more details on the course content and class dates.

I am offering many instances of this course, but I will not run them all. Sign up for ALL instances of the course that you could possibly attend. Then I'll run the one(s) that can be most heavily attended and drop the rest.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. - Michael Dunn

  • Week 2: Slides - Tool to help you and your students organize ideas and present them
  • Week 3: Drawing (on the left and right side of the brain) and how to put your creations in Docs and Slides
  • Week 4: Spreadsheets (a.k.a "Sheets”) - Know-how and ideas on how to use this powerful tool for manipulating numbers and text, seeing relationships among numbers and graphically bringing understanding to a gob of numbers.
